im going to use this thread in hopes that it will become a sticky for a place to put those chromehounds memories and related stuff.
to start, im going to saaaaaay….
recently, i was thinking of how id like the mav aiming servo sound to change, because im gonna be honest, its fairly annoying to hear something like a 1960’s farm tractor start up every time you move the aim…and it reminded me of how chromehounds had an even more annoying sound, and i was trying to remember, but couldnt for the longest time.. it was so annoying back then that i could hardly believe id forgotten what exactly it sounded like, and it took me a few days to finally remember that it was this….loud, high-pitched squealing noise that sounded like lots of tiny servos with grinding gears. one of the things i hated most in chromehounds was this. it made any sort of aiming movement almost painful to listen to, not because it was loud(honestly it was just below that “loud” barrier…), but because it sounded NOTHING like what i figured a gargantuan ball joint servo would sound like, and it really made the game annoying to play at times(im sure many of you know how much i hate it when things get unrealistic…). i always wanted it to sound like a huge tank turret servo, something liiiike….https://www.dropbox.com/s/5t2siyqd1gah84q/SERVLRG4.ogg?dl=0 oooor https://www.dropbox.com/s/fgc4w2qyhno3ig6/TWRTUR63.ogg?dl=0 (credit goes to cavedog for the sounds, which are from total annihilation)
i can also remember how annoying it was to cope with the massive up and down movements of the lighter quadrupedal legs. ievery time i used them, i thought “oh my god, keeping the pilot alive realistically would be like an egg drop milk box contest except your dropping it from the empire state building. ”
something else, i played the everloving fuck out of the campaign, which i was very saddened to find did not include many of the awesome parts used online. i played as hard as i could, hoping that the cockpit used by edgardo in the last mission *watches this video, hears the sound of the hounds, and a 10,000 ft nostalgia tsunami hits the city that is my mind and i am 10x more anxious to play chromehounds again IM ABOUT TO DIE* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwLBm18x74k and all the other neat parts i was seeing online, especially the big double barrel gun seen spammed in the planet killer and the big quadrupedal legs, would be unlocked, but no….they never were. is there any way i can get ahold of those parts, maybe through some existing hack? i dont care about online play…i was happy with the campaign, but i was always drooling over those parts…
ive also gotten into papercrafting. its been a while since ive done any major work, but….so far ive completed a mw4 mercs supernova, im maybe 20% through a mw4 mercs deimos, which i will probably restart. but…this is related to chromehounds because i found some papercraft chromehounds models. i have intentions to make the rj and the quadrupedal in time, but i was wondering if anyone else had heard of/seen these.
i just spent a couple hours searching for links on a site and only found the rj model, but there is also a heavy quadruped and a scout hover model floating around too. id post the link to the rj, but the time spent looking for them was also spent looking for interesting papercrafts, which im about to check out in pepakura.

in my experience(id like to say i am fairly experienced in the art of papercraft, not to the point of those epic 1000+ piece things but..) all you need is an exacto knife and glue sticks.

its a glorified tutorial for roletypes, i mean its pretty decent couse it has a story, but you get like 10% of the parts in the game and you dont experience what multiplayer was like at all, which was where the meat really was.

i only ever played offline, and yeah the campaign is pretty much a glorified tutorial, but its actually quite a lot for how multiplayer-oriented the game is. it portrays the events prior to the neroimus war. in it, the majority of the enemies are literal tanks, which are tiny in comparison, and then various walking tanks and hovers, which are pretty much miniature hounds. hounds are equal to mavs. you rarely ever combat other hounds, as they are fairly new and extremely expensive.
another thing is that you do not ‘buy’ parts in the campaign, you only earn them and there are a limited number of each. ofc, when you die in battle, you just die and you dont actually lose any of the parts, but there are a limited amount available.
for example, i think total there are only maybe four of each standard weapon, counting two for each type, except for sniper rifles and cannons, which there are only four of each with a single sub-type.
anti-hound rockets(single-shot high-powered rocket launcher),
sniper rifles(compare to lighter sniper rifles in mav),
sniper cannons(higher powered sniper rifles)anti-hound cannons(which are like cannons in mav)
bomb launchers(essentially super short ranged timed grenade droppers)
grenade launchers(bomb launchers, except they trade damage for range and detonation on impact)
there are four of each three types of armors as well.
there are heavy weapons too, but there are only three you get in the campaign and one of each.
a single large cannon, which is like a cross between a howitzer and an anti-hound cannon, beasty weapon)
a heavy rocket launcher, which fires a pair of high powered rockets. you see two of this weapon in the intro on the big white quadruped)
and a heavy multi rocket launcher.
there are three different cockpits, a light, medium and heavy.
two bipeds, two reverse joints, two hovers, two wheeled, two quadrupeds and three tanks.
the campaign consists of i think 7 missions for each role type, soldier, scout, defender, sniper, commander and heavy gunner, with an extra final mission.
the final mission for each role type you fight against a hound, which, compared to the usual tank and walking tank, are pretty hard to kill. a lot harder than mavs are, especially considering hounds can only carry a quarter of the weight mavs can.

last night i found an faq walkthrough for chromehounds, which listed all the parts, albeit most of them were just a code..
but holy shit, serge was right on the money, you really only do get about 10% of the weapons available in multiplayer… i always thought there were only maybe 10 more parts that i would get my hands on if i played online, but WOW….there are around 10 TIMES more parts….
if i ever get the chance to speak to an official of the company which we do not speak of, i am going to beg them to make a re-release of chromehounds but with all parts unlocked when you s-rank all the missions, with maybe a skirmish match maker where you can make ais use builds you made. that would be perfect for me.

i feel like a dick for saying this but…chromehounds is a fully developed game. mav is in the cocoon stages.
i prefer mav over chromehounds, but if i met with whoever would be capable of legally unlocking all the parts and making it a public update, convincing them would be a lot easier than meeting cyber and having him suddenly turn mav from the cocoon it is now into a gigantic butterfly that we all dream of it being in the same amount of time it would take. i mean, that just isnt humanly possible without him killing himself in the process.October 24, 2017 at 6:09 AM #142009LegacyElite84ModeratorLieutenant ColonelTotal posts : 2511
Having the parts would do nothing for MAV as a majority are already implemented in the game, and more still incoming. And MAV definitely isn’t a game that’s made overnight, or one that’s sitting on mountains of cash that could by the IP of Chromehounds on a whim. We’re all here for the long run, and at this point, I’d rather play MAV than Chromehounds. And once MAV gets some more social aspects in such as better in-game player communications to bring a more competitive playerbase, campaigns, and squads, there will be nothing that Chromehounds has to bring to the table other than the sheer number of maps (South Cemo plz).

Almost six years, and showing only signs of growth. Six years ago, the game looked like this (https://bombdogstudios.com/blog/screen-shot-saturday/) . This whole project was started to prove a one person dev team could make a complete 3D game. Six years from now, at this rate, Bombdog Studios will probably be starting work on a second game (MAV II: The Glacier’s Shrekoning).
