State of the Game #84: Snapshots and Master Servers

What!? Wednesday already? But it was just Wednesday LAST week.

Okay, okay, I will post a state of the game. Ahem.

Welcome to this week’s state of the game! Whew. Done.

Okay, not really. What I have been up to is releasing a new snapshot build, version 0.5.10_2. This new snapshot build moves the game farther along into the new multiplayer system, with the entire connection and loading process re-written. It also introduced the concept of a pre and post game lobby (there is no UI) and it removed the ability to access the garage.

So right now, I am continuing to work on the multiplayer. With the basic connection system redone, I am not focusing on expanding the custom master server. Right now there are some issues that can cause the servers to be listed multiple times, so I am cleaning up those bugs. I will also be removing the requirement to select a game mode before entering into multiplayer. You will just select from the available servers.

Also, I will begin working on the pre and post game UI. This will allow you to see the other players on the server, review the stats from the round, and vote for which map you want to play on next.

With the UI, I am aiming for something a bit like the Halo 4 lobby UI. A nice way to see everyone you are playing with, interact with them, and get all the information about the current game. Obviously, the UI will be quite different, but it give you a bit of an idea of what I am shooting for.

Well, that is it for this week. It’s going to be a busy week, so check be next week to see how much I get done!
