State of the Game #230: Just keep working

This week, I am in a heads down, bulldoze through, full force work mode.

I have been falling behind, significantly, with the rate of my production. It’s painful to me to admit, but it was because I was not enjoying what I was doing. Sometimes, important != fun, and I have really let that get in my way in the past.

Luckily, Rachael was to the rescue 🙂

Rachael has been spending a significant amount of time with me, helping me through the non-fun. She has been doing quality control, ensuring I don’t move on from a task until it’s 100% done, tested, and ready for your eyes.

I would be lying if I said this has not been an incredibly painful and straining period.

But, we have hit a tipping point. The bulk of the menu UI’s have been completed. Main menu, profile, single player, game options, login screen, connecting screen, connection errors, and other small elements have been completed. And I truly mean complete. No bugs, no weird interactions; fully done.

I am moving on to the multi player server browser today, which will be much faster, and should be done with the pre-game lobby and have started on the garage by next week.

This has been quite the experience for myself and for Rachael. One that I know will heavily influence the quality of work that goes out going forward. To sum it up, I would like to quote one of my favorite movies of all time, Shawshank Redemption;

You can crawl through a river of shit to come out a clean man on the other side.Red

  1. We going to be seeing some new and prettier in-game UI for the maps, weapon groups, timer, etc etc? Would love to see new (and animated) reticles too.

    This update is going to be awesome. Keep it up you two!

      You know Rachael wouldn’t allow that to slip by.

      I am having flash backs to the early days when you would send me bug lists 3 pages long. ::shudders::

      1. Those were the days.

        And hey, even if this update is delayed for a week or three more than planned, a mini Dark Times for this would definitely be worth it if it means I don’t have to do one of my signature mile long bug lists with hours of hunting just to make sure I can replicate them all. Go big and try to hit up the media again with this huge facelift.
